Procter and Gamble Internship Session

Procter and Gamble visited IBA, City Campus on February 12, 2010 and discussed the way they operate globally and locally. Also discussed in the two hour seminar was the process of the Summer Internships they conduct every year. Following are the highlights of the seminar conducted by Procter and Gamble:

- Mr. Omer Imtiaz, Recruitment Manager at Procter and Gamble, Pakistan, initially started with the background of P&G Global, how the business started and how P&G has kept up its reputation for over 173 years. The introduction of P&G Global was followed by the discussion on the company’s investments in Pakistan and the success of each brand launched. Most of the success stories of the brands were followed by their Global advertisements which made the seminar even more interesting. The importance of career and its prospects at Procter and Gamble were also discussed by Mr. Omer Imtiaz.

- Ms. Shahzeen Rehman, Country HR Manager of Procter and Gamble, Pakistan, took over the presentation after Mr. Omer Imtiaz and discussed the HR opportunities at P&G in Pakistan. Being a LUMS graduate and having worked for Procter and Gamble for only four and a half years and now being the Country HR Manager, she was really proud of her growth in the organization and gave us insight on her success. She mentioned that moving up the hierarchy is solely based on employee evaluations done by their supervisors and peers at Procter and Gamble.

- Soon after, two recent IBA graduates discussed their work experience with the company and how the company empowers each of its employees and make them feel part of the success of the organization.

- This was followed by an introduction of various departments in the company , including, Procter and Gamble’s CSR activities, success of the Media department, etc.

-Then the various employee benefits were discussed.

- In the end, a briefing was given about the Internship Process at Procter and Gamble, Pakistan.

Feedback from Students

Although I really liked the insight that they gave of the company, however, I believe that more time should have been allocated to the Internship process that was being discussed

It is important to highlight here that at Procter and Gamble there is no such thing as an MT Program ie Management Trainee Program. Instead, there is only a Summer Internship Program from which people who are selected for the internship, 80% of them get hired a year before they graduate.
