IBA KARACHI DAZZLES IN DUBAI - Corporate Engagement Event creates a buzz in Dubai
Very few events can claim to add to the razzmatazz that Dubai
has to offer, and the IBA Corporate Engagement Event did exactly
that on March 07, 2018, at the Conrad Hotel, Dubai. Organized in
collaboration with the Alumni & Placement Society, the UAE
Alumni Chapter and the Pakistan Executives’ Organization for
Promotion of Leadership and Entrepreneurship (PEOPLE), the
star-studded event attracted corporate heads from both the U.A.E.
and Pakistan, and other prominent personalities from the U.A.E.
His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Honorable Minister for Tolerance, UAE, graced the occasion as the chief guest. H.E. the Governor of Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Zubair, H.E. The occasion also marked the Year of Zayed, to mark Sheikh Zayed’s ethos and commitment to leadership through human development, by showcasing the quality of the IBA Alumni in the UAE and promoting a positive image of Pakistan.
The event was in part an extension of the successful alumni engagement events in Lahore, and at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad, during the previous year – with the man behind the novel idea, Mr. Shahid Shafiq, having played an instrumental role in putting this event together. Addressing the audience, Mr. Shafiq elaborated that this gathering was “part of a three-year consolidated effort, and is part of a much larger plan of activating and consolidating the IBA’s links with the 14,000-strong alumni community, present all over the globe.”
The Alumni Representative acknowledged the role of Dr. Ishrat
Husain who helped raise Rs. 5 Billion for the upgradation of
facilities and human resource and brought the institution at par
with any business school in the world. Mr. Shafiq suggested that
the tagline of the IBA should be that “if you want to be the
President of Pakistan, or the Prime Minister of Pakistan, a
Governor of a Province, a Senator, an MNA, or a Bank President,
Head of a multinational company, a prominent businessman or an
IT expert – join the IBA.” He thanked the alumni for their
participation in the event and encouraged them to stay connected
with their alma mater.
Dr. Farrukh Iqbal welcomed the chief guest and stated that having started as a business school in 1955, the IBA, Karachi, has diversified its academic base over time in response to the changing needs of the society and the economy. “I believe diversity is important for universities. It adds value to the knowledge, experience, and skills of students. It promotes tolerance. It makes for better individuals and better citizens. We seek to promote diversity at the IBA in several ways. For example, for more than a decade now, we have actively sought students from a wide range of socioeconomic and regional backgrounds through our Talent Hunt Programs. We have supported this effort through expanding financial assistance programs. At present, around one-third of our full-time student body (or about 957 students) gets financial assistance in the form of grants and on-campus jobs amounting to Rs. 272 million.” Dr. Iqbal emphasized that through its Talent Hunt Programs, the IBA has reached out to underprivileged students in far flung areas of Pakistan and supported community development through education.
H.E. Mr. Shaukat Aziz, IBA Alumnus 1969, reminisced about his days at the IBA and credited his alma mater for honing his skills, which led to his success. He asked the youth to question their leaders about their decisions and reform agendas.
Echoing the sentiments of Mr. Aziz, H.E. Mr. Muhammad Zubair, IBA Alumnus 1980, mentioned the emphasis the IBA management lays on meritocracy and ensures a strict regimen for students which make them excel in their respective fields. Mr. Zubair also lauded the efforts of Dr. Ishrat Husain and his successor, Dr. Farrukh Iqbal, for transforming the IBA into one of the leading higher education institutions in South Asia.
President IBA Alumni UAE Chapter, Mr. Danish Kazi and President PEOPLE, Mr. Kashif Khan also spoke on the occasion.
9 Emirati and Pakistani professionals were bestowed PEOPLE – IBA Alumni UAE Chapter Excellence awards in areas of leadership, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship.
The audience was very impressed upon viewing the IBA Corporate Video which showcased the details of current academic programs and Infrastructure status.
