Technical System

Accession of Library Material
When the library receives books, CD’s, audio-visual material and other non-book material in the library, the material is entered in the printed accession register and sent to the Processing Department.

Cataloging and Processing
The Cataloging / Processing Department is responsible for adding new materials for the cataloging and preparing them for the shelves.

The Cataloging area serves the IBA community by adding and updating the bibliographical records. These include records for books, serials, and audio-visual material.  The Library uses the Dewy Decimal Classification (DDC) scheme and L.C. cutter mark system as author mark for the classification of all library material.

Processing area
The Processing area is responsible for preparing all cataloged material for the shelves. This involves adding call number labels, stamping, embossing, inserting security strips, and adding gift plates. This area also assumes responsibility for repairing damaged material. Repair techniques include spine rebinding, text and loose page reattachment, corner reinforcing, adding T-pockets for loose materials, and creating protective encasements for fragile material.

Organization of Library Materials
The IBA Libraries have more than 30,000 volumes in Business Management, Economics, Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Finance, Statistics, and Banking related fields. Its collection also includes back issues of the various international and national scholarly journals, periodicals and magazines for the faculty, students and researchers. A very important part of the library collection is the publications of the Government of Pakistan, serials and reports.

The Library is subscribing to more than 80 scholarly journals on various subjects in the print format for the faculty, students and researchers. The current journals are on the display racks and back issues of the same journals are in the store room, and all journals have been arranged in alphabetical order.

Shelves Arrangement
The library books are arranged on the shelves by Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system. The DDC has divided the entire scope of knowledge into 10 broad classes beginning with 000 and ending 900. The library has an open access system for library users, so that they can find and locate their desired book(s) on the shelves easily.

Information Technology
The Information Technology Department is responsible for all aspects of technology in the Library.

Information Technology provides the technical support to the staff of the Library for computer lab, equipped with 20 workstations, and 5 staff systems. The department is also responsible for the Library Automation System (LMS), and authentication system for access to electronic resources.
