On April 10th, Saturday, IBA students got to witness one of the most inspiring lectures in the Distinguished Lecture Series. Organized on the platform of the Marketing Club, Mr. Hussain Dawood, Chairman of Dawood Group, was the guest speaker of the day. His lecture "For Success, Wisdom or Bizdom?" was aimed at defining the simple concept of happiness, and enlightening students on the relation between happiness and success.
After reception, the guest started off with an interactive input from students on the definition of wisdom. That was followed by a definition of Bizdom, i.e. business education which is earnestly sought in the University of Life. After that, he worked with students to come up with the CSFs and definition of success. The key conclusion from this inspiring session was that Self Confidence is the most critical factor of success, and keys on how to develop it were laid out. Among these were the importance of establishing honest commitments, practicing integrity and developing a character based on honesty, truthfulness and ethics. This was followed by the most integral take away of the lecture – how self-confidence and character building is based upon the decision making ability of a person.
According to Mr. Dawood, the Decision Making Model that should be incorporated in our lives in based on the importance of being proactive rather than reactive. After providing a lucid example of his claustrophobia and discomfort with lifts, Mr. Dawood mentioned that between every stimulus and response there exists a space where we have the capability to decide what response we want to give. This space is what allows us to respond, either positively or negatively, making us response-able, and thus responsible people. In conclusion, thus, decisions are what can allow us to develop inner harmony and self confidence, the extremely critical component of success. The happiness that comes afterwards is an added bonus.
