Karachi Koalas, the joint RoboCup Soccer team (3D Simulation League) of Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi and University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), has qualified for IranOpen RoboCup competition. The competition will be held in Tehran during April 05-09, 2011. Karachi Koalas team was formed in the mid of 2010 as a result of a strong and further evolving scientific partnership between Innovation and Enterprise Research Lab @ UTS and Artificial Intelligence Lab @ IBA. RoboCup Soccer has become one of the most challenging yet exciting global competitions within Computer Science/Engineering with the stated goal that by 2050 a team of robots will defeat the human world champion FIFA team in soccer. To achieve this objective and to advance research and development in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics, World RoboCup competition is organized annually. The competition is preceded by four regional competitions: GermanOpen, IranOpen, JapanOpen and AmericanOpen. Karachi Koalas has qualified for IranOpen and is hopeful that the performance in the competition would pave the way for participation in the World RoboCup where the entry for first-time participants is extremely competitive. The World RoboCup competition will be held in Turkey during July 05-11, 2011.
