GOALS and OBJECTIVES

IBA’s slogan is “Leadership and ideas for tomorrow.”

1. Leadership is about dissatisfaction with status quo. If IBA is developing leaders, they should be exposed to that Leader in history who challenged status quo in a manner that it became a watershed event in human history.

2. Why IBA graduates should be dissatisfied with status quo is known to all. There is a lot to change in our society for the better that IBA students should be impelled towards so that they may act as effective change leaders/reformers  in there sphere of activity. Cumulative impact of change at the micro level will show up in change and reform at the macro level also.

Imam Husain (AS) says, “I have taken this stand not out of arrogance or pride, neither out of mischief or injustice. I have risen to seek reform in the community of my grandfather. I would like to bid good, forbid evil, and follow the tradition of my grandfather and my father ‘Ali bin Abi Talib.”

Desire for reform is widespread in our society. IBA graduates are expected to play a proactive role towards this goal in their zones of influence. It is, therefore, important to give them an idea of the  reformist Imam Husain (the head of virtue) who refused to give allegiance to Yazid (the head of impiety) and thereby established distinction between good and evil for all times to come.

3. Imam Husain (AS) overturned the view “Might is right” to “Right is might.” This is a very important concept that must be inculcated in IBA students who feel that there is little they can contribute towards this end as they lack power.

Mahatma Gandhi writes, “I learned from Hussein how to achieve victory while being oppressed.” This is what our young students need to learn too and Yom-e-Husain(AS) is a step in that direction.

Thomas Carlyle (Scottish historian and essayist) explains, “The best lesson which we get from the tragedy of Karbala is that Husain and his companions were rigid believers in God. They illustrated that the numerical superiority does not count when it comes to the truth and the falsehood. The victory of Husain, despite his minority, marvels me!”

Example of Imam Husain (AS) would also reinforce faith in God required essentially to reform and serve as effective change agents.

4. The event has, therefore, been a step towards imparting the significance of VALUES and PRINCIPLES without which no reform/change effort can succeed.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad writes, “The sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A) is not limited to one country, or nation, but it is the hereditary state of the brotherhood of all mankind.”

Dr. Radha Krishnan writes, “Though Imam Hussain (A) gave his life almost 1300 years ago, but his indestructible soul rules the hearts of people even today.”

Mrs. Sarojini Naidu writes, “I congratulate Muslims that from among them, Hussain (A), a great human being was born, who is revered and honored totally by all communities

5. Let us together undergird IBAians dream of Leadership and Ideas for Tomorrow with values and principles that can be learnt best from the one whose example straddles cultures and religious preferences worldwide.

The event has helped broaden the horizon, raise the level of pursuits to lofty goals, and set the sights of future IBA graduates higher.
