Advancing AI Research through Global Collaboration
July 13-16, 2026: IBA hosted the Advanced School on Machine Learning & AI Methods at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), bringing together renowned researchers, faculty members, and aspiring scientists for a four-day learning experience at the intersection of artificial intelligence and particle physics.
The workshop began with pre-school sessions by Dr. Shabana Nisar, Professor – SMCS; Dr. Tariq Mahmood, Professor – SMCS; and Dr. Babar Qureshi, Professor – SMCS, followed by lectures and hands-on tutorials from experts representing MIT, CERN collaborations, Nagoya University, the University of Oklahoma, Universidad de Oviedo, Université de Genève, INFN Padova, Salim Habib University, and IBA Karachi. Participants explored machine learning, transformers, generative AI, anomaly detection, real-time inference, and AI applications in high-energy physics. A key highlight was the keynote colloquium, "Centaur Science: Adventures in AI + Physics," delivered by Prof. Jesse Thaler (MIT).
The initiative reaffirmed IBA's commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research, international collaboration, and innovation in AI-driven science, organized by the School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS).
